The Role the Education Department Plays in a Country

Proper education is vital for a nation to prosper. It plays the role of a pathway to quality learning throughout life among people of every region, age, color, creed, and religion. Education can be referred to as the process of acquiring knowledge, skills, beliefs, moral habits, and values.

No matter what we say, we cannot stress enough how important education is for everyone. Especially in this fast-paced era, education equips people to deal with daily challenges in life. You can determine the importance of education from the fact that it is considered a basic right. Unfortunately, regardless of the fact that it’s a basic human right, thousands, in fact, millions of people are deprived of it.

It is a crime to restrict anyone from achieving an education. Yet, the challenges faced by millions of people just to attain an educational degree are unimaginable. Either they’re deprived of other basic rights such as food, and shelter which means education is a distant dream to them, or others can’t afford education because of unemployment. On the other hand, there are some who are forced to work, as a result being deprived of their basic human right. Whatever the reason why an individual is deprived of education, it is one of the responsibilities of the ministry of education to make it available to them. However, one must also consider that there is a limit to what this body can do to improve education standards in a country.

The Roles and Responsibilities of the Ministry:

  1. Understanding the Philosophy of Education

In order to understand the role of education in people’s lives, the ministry must understand the philosophy of education. This philosophy sheds light on the goals, forms, meaning, and methods of education. In order to function efficiently, this body of qualified and capable individuals must understand the true essence of education. This helps them to understand what approaches to take in order to uplift education standards and literacy rates.

  1. Understand vocational training and its importance

Undoubtedly, the ministry cannot force every child, or adult to attend a school or a formal educational institution. What they can do is, provide vocational training to unskilled or illiterate individuals. This will help them acquire certain skills which will, in turn, aid them in finding employment opportunities, and support their starving families.

  1. Staying and keeping current educational methods up-to-date in educational institutions

Their role and responsibility don’t end with just providing educational facilities to the population, but they’re also expected to stay up to date with the latest educational methodology that’s applied by institutions abroad. For example the use of ICT in education. They must understand the significance of modernisation of technology and must incorporate it into their education systems. For instance, they could introduce the use of computers in vocational courses to help individuals move towards advancement. This will ensure that the teaching methodology used in any educational institute, or vocational centers aren’t outdated.

  1. Maintain education standards within the country

Under the umbrella of educational departments in a country falls the school education department. Their main role is to ensure that the standard of education is above average in most schools across a province, city, or even a country.

  1. Introducing nonformal education to those who cannot access educational institutes

Like we mentioned earlier, it isn’t possible to force every individual child to attend a formal education institution by the ministry. Therefore, for those who have no access to ‘schools’, or formal educational institutions, nonformal education can be introduced. This is similar to vocational education where students don’t have to go to a proper educational institution to achieve a degree. Instead, they are taught skills that can be used as a pathway to employment.

  1. Making sure global education is being taught effectively

For an educated person, it becomes quite evident that you can’t live life in your own little bubble. What we mean by this is, as adults, or even children, an individual needs to be aware of what’s going on around the globe. This is where global education steps in. This type of education, as the name suggests, comprises education about cultures, histories, geographies, etc. around the world. It isn’t just confined to ‘history’. Education of the globe teaches students about current affairs, whether they are political, national, or even limited to a certain province.

  1. Providing micro guidance to educational institutes

Another significant role of the ministry is to provide guidance at a macro level to all the educational institutions all over the country. This should cover not just Marketing and market dynamics, but also HR, and the trends of the industry.

The Higher Education Commission

While the ministry is responsible for the educational standards in a country, the role of the Higher Education Commission is quite similar to that of the ministry. However, the contrast comes in on the levels of education that they’re assigned to regulate. The HEC, unlike the ministry, regulates higher education in a country. On the other hand, the ministry is responsible for the overall education in a country.

The commission of higher education doesn’t just maintain the education standards in a country, but they’re also responsible for the provision of funds, regulation, and overseeing of the higher education institutions in a country. One of the examples of this is the annual regulations that they conduct by awarding the best university an award for maintaining educational standards in a country.

They aren’t just required to fund educational institutes, but they also have the responsibility of utilizing the budget of education in such a way that all the needs of higher educational institutes are fulfilled within the limited budget allocated. They must ensure efficiency, and upgrade educational reforms, policies, and infrastructure to maintain the education standards in a country.

Both bodies of capable individuals play an important role in maintaining education standards in a country. This body of learned men needs to be aware of latest educational requirements because education doesn’t just impact the life of one individual, but it determines the future prosperity of the entire nation!
